Buick’s range in North America comprises exclusively of SUVs including the Envision, Encore and Enclave, but none of them is fully electric. This could change in the near future as the automaker filed a trademark for the Electra name in Canada, a move that could hint at a production version of last years’ fully electric crossover concept bearing the iconic name.

General Motor’s trademark filing from December 20 for the Buick Electra name was posted at the Rivian Owners Forum. Of course, this doesn’t necessarily mean that Buick will use the Electra name on a production vehicle, nor that this will be a fully electric crossover, however both of those assumptions sound plausible given the timing.

The pictured Buick Electra concept was unveiled last year in Shangai. The prototype brought back an iconic name used in full-size luxury sedans from 1959 to 1990. Unlike its predecessors, the new Electra adopted a sleek crossover-style silhouette previewing Buick’s future design language.

Like the Cadillac Lyric that was unveiled in production form earlier this year, the Buick Electra concept was based on GM’s Ultium architecture with a fully electric powertrain. In the concept, the dual electric motors produced 583 hp (435 kW / 589 PS), while the Ultium battery allowed a range of more than 410 miles (660 km). The production version could use the Lyriq’s 100 kWh lithium-ion battery pack which is good for a more down-to-earth 300 mile (483 km) electric range.

A Buick Electra SUV could be a competitor for the rumored Chrysler Airflow and the Ford Mustang Mach-E, or move upmarket to rival more premium electric SUV proposals from BMW (iX), Audi (e-tron), and Mercedes-Benz (EQE). In any case, the design of the concept would have to be toned down for production, including a more conventional design for the greenhouse and the doors while retaining elements like the overall crossover shape, the Matrix LED lighting units, and the large-diameter wheels.

Buick hasn’t made any announcements for the future product strategy so we don’t know if and when they are planning to introduce their first fully electric SUV. Outside North America, the automaker is steadily increasing its sales in China, where it is also offering a wide range of sedans, SUVs, and luxury MPVs.

If you’re a celebrity or sports star and want to make a statement, the Lamborghini Urus has quickly established itself as the SUV to have. Kim Kardashian has more than one, Justin Bieber has one, and now, NBA player LaMelo Ball has joined the club.

Ball plays for the Charlotte Hornets and with a $35 million, four-year deal locked in, recently sent his Urus to Champion Motoring in Los Angeles to be thoroughly upgraded. While the looks won’t be to everyone’s tastes, there’s no denying that this Urus makes a statement.

Adorning the exterior of the super SUV is a bodykit sourced from 1016 Industries. The kit starts off at the front end with a distinctive hood and flared wheel arches. Modifications continue along the sides with new skirts and flared rear wheel arches to match those at the front. Found at the rear is a rooftop spoiler, a trunklid spoiler, a new bumper, and a pronounced diffuser.

Champion Motoring then applied a florescent yellow wrap to the car, painted the Lamborghini badge at the back in red, and applied fluorescent yellow accents to the black wheels.

It is unclear if any mechanical modifications have been made to Ball’s Urus. However, even if they haven’t, the SUV’s 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 is still good for a cool 641 hp and 627 lb-ft (850 Nm) of torque which, we think, is more than enough for any occasion.

The 2021 Nissan Rogue has been recalled for the fourth time this year due to an issue with the rear seats.

The recall notice reveals that in some models the rear seats were not properly manufactured by a Nissan supplier. The automaker says the upper tether wires in the rear seats may not have been properly welded to the seatback frame which is important as these wires are part of the LATCH system for securing child safety seats.

An investigation from Nissan revealed that these wires may have moved out of position during the welding process which means they could be insufficiently welded to the seatback. This could result in the wires not meeting the strength requirements for child restraint systems. Nissan found three left-side seats and one right-side seat with insufficient welds during an audit. The company is not aware of any incidents related to this issue.

A grand total of 47,098 Rogue SUVs from the 2021 model year are involved in the recall. If dealers discover a nonconforming weld, they will replace the affected seatback free of charge. Owners will be notified by mail from July 30.

The Nissan Rogue was most recently recalled in May due to rear brake caliper assemblies that could be missing an internal bushing that secures the O-seal ring. This recall involved 14,045 examples from the 2021 model year. Earlier this year, Nissan also recalled the 2021 Rogue because a handful of models were fitted with wheel nuts designed for the Nissan Maxima. Moreover, 2,146 Rogues were recalled in February due to an improperly secured fuel hose that could leak.

Nissan has unveiled the all-new Qashqai, the third generation of Europe’s best-selling crossover, which now introduces new electrified powertrains and a new styling direction for the Japanese carmaker.

Nissan’s latest crossover model comes with a more muscular and sharp exterior design, featuring a bigger V-Motion front grille, as well as slim LED matrix headlamps with new ‘boomerang’ daylight running lights.

The athletic stance of the new Qashqai is amplified by the strong shoulder line that runs across the length of the vehicle while for the first time in the model’s history, Nissan will offer the option of 20-inch alloy wheels.

The new Nissan Qashqai is slightly bigger than the model it replaces, being longer by 35 mm, wider by 32 mm, taller by 25 mm, while the wheelbase is extended by 20mm. Customers will get to choose between 11 colors, and five two-tone combinations,  for a total of 16 variations to choose from.

High-quality materials and all the latest connectivity features

One of the biggest upgrades can be found inside, with the new Nissan Qashqai aiming to set a new segment standard for “premium feel, distinctive design, and enhance usability”. Nissan is proud of its high-quality switchgear and tactile-feel buttons but they’ve also upgraded the onboard technology as well.

The instrument cluster is now a high-definition digital unit, measuring 12.3 inches in diameter and offering a choice of configurable layouts, displaying information from the navigation, infotainment, and more, all controlled via a new tactile switch on the steering wheel. In addition, there’s a new 10.8-inch heads-up display, which is the biggest in the segment.

The new infotainment system runs through a high-definition 9-inch touchscreen display, featuring NissanConnect services, Android Auto, and wireless Apple CarPlay. In-car WiFi for up to seven devices is also present, as well as front and rear USB ports for charging devices.

A more practical cabin designed for families

The bigger footprint of the new Nissan Qashqai, which is Nissan’s first model in Europe to use the Alliance’s CMF-C platform, is accompanied by big practicality gains; the luggage space is now 50 lt bigger than before, thanks to the lower by 20mm cargo floor, a direct consequence of the rear suspension’s improved packaging. The rear doors now open to 90 degrees, allowing easier access for babies and toddlers in child seats.

Nissan has already announced that the new Qashqai will be available with an all-electrified engine range, which includes two mild-hybrid petrol engines, as well as the company’s innovative e-Power self-charging full-hybrid powertrain.

Hybrid-only engine range includes innovative e-Power unit

The range of the 2021 Nissan Qashqai kicks off with the mild-hybrid 1.3-liter DiG-T turbocharged four-cylinder unit. The mild-hybrid powertrain is available with two power outputs -138 HP and 156 HP – and paired to either a six-speed manual or an Xtronic CVT transmission. An all-wheel-drive option is available but only in conjunction with the 156 HP engine and the CVT transmission.

The new e-Power hybrid powertrain is different from other self-charging hybrid powertrains in the market as it uses the ICE engine as a generator of electricity only and isn’t connected to the driven wheels; the system combines a 154 HP 1.5-liter variable-compression petrol engine with a 187 HP electric motor, a power generator, and an inverter, with the final power output rated at 187 HP.

The result is a crossover with EV-like driving characteristics, as the electric motor is the one that powers exclusively the wheels. Nissan’s e-Power system fires up the internal combustion engine when necessary, always running it in its optimal range for “superior fuel efficiency and lower CO2 emissions”.

In addition, the pure electric drive of the e-Power variant offers instant responses with a “high-torque feel”, and better acceleration than its traditional hybrid rivals while keeping the engine at a lower RPM. Nissan’s e-Pedal feature is also present, allowing the Qashqai e-Power to be driven with just the throttle pedal, like the Leaf EV.

The all-new Nissan Qashqai also features the latest version of the carmaker’s ProPilot driver assistance feature; the system, now called ProPILOT with Navi-link, is available only on Xtronic-equipped models and can accelerate the vehicle to cruise at a set speed, and can brake the vehicle down to 0 in heavy stop-start traffic. If the vehicle has been stationary for less than three seconds, and the traffic in front of the car moves away, the system is able to resume automatically.

The updated ProPilot system can now communicate with the Qashqai’s blind-spot radars to help intervene with a steering input correction, read road signs and use data from the navigation system to adjust the vehicle’s speed accordingly.

With almost 29,000 units shipped last year in Europe, according to CarSalesBase, the Dacia Lodgy hasn’t been that popular, which is why the Romanian automaker has reportedly decided to pull the plug on it.

Discontinuing the minivan won’t leave a gap in the company’s lineup, though, as they are allegedly to replace it with a seven-seater SUV.

According to Largus’ sources, the RJI (internal codename) will be based on the CMF-B platform that’s shared with the new-gen Logan and Sandero, as well as the latest Renault Clio, Captur and Nissan Juke. In order to accommodate the two extra seats, it will reportedly have a longer wheelbase as well as a longer rear overhang.

Power is expected to be supplied by the regular 1.0-liter TCe petrol engine, with 100 and 120 HP, and the 1.3-liter TCe, rated at 140 and 160 HP, with the latter possibly featuring a 12V mild-hybrid system. An LPG version of the smaller unit is understood to launch too, alongside the 1.6-liter E-Tech self-charging hybrid powertrain from the Clio, where it puts out 140 HP.

Safety gear such as the automatic emergency braking, blind spot warning and hill-start assist, alongside an electric parking brake, should be available.

While the Lodgy is assembled in Morocco for the European market, the new yet-to-be-named SUV, which will slot above the popular Duster, is said to be put together at Dacia’s plant in Pitesti, Romania. This should give the brand extra points with the unions, which are currently angry with Renault for making Europe’s cheapest EV, the Dacia Spring, in China.

The model will supposedly premiere at the end of next summer and enter production in October, while deliveries should begin in late 2021 or early 2022.

Genesis has been on an absolute roll in recent years and the 2021 GV80 could very well be the vehicle the South Korean automaker needs to establish itself as a serious rival to Mercedes-Benz, Audi and BMW.

Tested here in 3.5T AWD Prestige form, the GV80’s 3.5-liter twin-turbocharged V6 is good for 375 hp and 391 lb-ft (530 Nm) of torque. In the U.S., the 3.5T AWD Prestige sits at the top of the range and starts at $70,950. Other variants include the AWD Standard, AWD Advanced and AWD Advanced+, with prices starting at $59,150 for the entry-level AWD Standard.

The reviewers are immediately impressed with the technology of the GV80, as it includes features like a 3D digital instrument cluster and a widescreen infotainment display sitting atop the dashboard. This screen is touch-sensitive and can also be controlled with a rotary wheel in the center console.

Another standout feature of the GV80 is the Highway Driving Assist II system that both reviewers think is a better lane-keeping assist system than those offered by Tesla, Mercedes-Benz, BMW and Audi. It also has a driver monitoring system, unlike current Tesla models. All told, the reviewers are very impressed with the interior.

As for the driving experience, it seems to be equally as impressive as the cabin. The SUV includes a noise cancellation system that means the cabin is almost silent when you’re cruising, while the GV80 also handles very well and has surprisingly little body roll.

The facelifted 2021 Jaguar E-Pace has been unveiled and while it doesn’t look very different to the outgoing model, it does benefit from a host of important updates.

Starting with the design, the British car manufacturer has altered the front fascia with a new bumper and grille mesh design with diamond detailing. The E-Pace also features all-new LED headlights with ‘Double J’ daytime running light signatures that can be optioned with Pixel LED technology.

As for the rear, the facelifted E-Pace includes a new mesh insert. Jaguar has also fitted new LED taillights inspired by those of the all-electric I-Pace and complete with a chicane-inspired graphic.

Some key changes have also been made to the cabin, all of which make the new E-Pace feel much more premium than the outgoing model. Taking pride of place in the interior is a new 11.4-inch curved-glass HD infotainment system with the company’s latest Pivi Pro infotainment system. Additionally, the new SUV features a re-designed driver selector and a 15W wireless device charger. Key driver touchpoints are also now wrapped in soft-touch materials and there are a host of new metallic features found throughout. Additionally, Jaguar has fitted a new steering wheel.

Under the skin, the updated Jaguar E-Pace is based around a new architecture that includes improved front suspension attachment points to provide a more comfortable ride. This new structure also reduces vibration and harness.

A handful of different variants will be offered depending on the market. Sitting at the base of the range is a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine producing 247 hp and 269 lb-ft (365 Nm) of torque and paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission and an all-wheel drive system. New for 2021 is the E-Pace 300 Sport model, complete with a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder with mild-hybrid technology and producing an impressive 296 hp and 295 lb-ft (400 Nm) of torque.

The E-Pace 300 Sport includes Jaguar’s second-generation Active Driveline AWD system that is able to transfer torque between the front and rear axles. This system works in conjunction with two independent electronically-controlled wet-plate clutches that distribute torque suitably across the rear wheels and with the ability to direct 100 per cent of torque to either rear wheel in just 100 milliseconds.

Deliveries of the 2021 Jaguar E-Pace will start in early 2021.

Lost count of how many crossovers and SUVs Kia is offering around the world?

Well, the Korean automaker isn’t making your life easier as it has just unveiled a new one, the Sonet subcompact SUV. Launching in India later this year in the sub-4-meter segment, the Kia Sonet will eventually become available in the brand’s global markets. However, the automaker hasn’t yet named the countries where the Sonet will be sold.

For now, let’s focus on the Indian model and see what it brings new to the table. The styling won’t surprise many because it follows closely the lines of the Sonet Concept unveiled at the Delhi Auto Expo 2020 in February.

Obviously, there are some changes such as the adoption of regular door handles and side mirrors, as well as the ditching of overly flashy details. At the front, highlights include a fresh interpretation of Kia’s signature ‘tiger-nose’ grille, jewel-like LED headlamp, and ‘heart beat’ LED DRLs shaped like the electric pulse of a heart.

The Sonet’s youthful appearance is also defined by the unique C-pillar design and structure, wraparound rear windscreen, ‘heart beat’ LED taillights, and 16-inch crystal-cut alloys. Despite the small footprint, it looks like a proper SUV thanks to a high ground clearance, plastic cladding around the lower part of the entire body, front skid plate and roof rails.

Inside, the Kia Sonet looks modern thanks to the 10.25-inch central touchscreen and 4.2-inch digital instrument cluster that are styled to look like they form a single unit. The dashboard is designed around the driver, which also benefits from a sporty multifunction steering wheel and a compact center console featuring only essential buttons. Kia says the Sonet features “high quality materials all around” as well as “ample, ergonomic space for all passengers”.

The automaker also mentions many segment-first features such as the 10.25-inch HD touchscreen with navigation, live traffic and Over-the-air (OTA) map updates, Smart Pure Air Purifier with virus protection, BOSE Premium seven-speaker audio with sub-woofer, ventilated driver and front-passenger seats and LED Sound Mood Lighting. The Sonet will also be available with remote engine start via UVO Connect and Smart Key, multi-drive & traction modes and grip control for automatic models, and wireless smartphone charger with cooling function.

The engine lineup in India will include two petrol units and a diesel. Kicking off the range is a Smartstream 1.2-liter naturally aspirated four-cylinder, with a 1.0-liter T-GDi turbocharged three-cylinder unit positioned above it. A 1.5-liter CRDi turbo diesel will be the top choice in India. Five- and six-speed manual transmissions will be available, alongside a seven-speed DCT and the new six-speed Smartstream intelligent manual transmission (iMT).

According to Kia, the Sonet’s dynamics and suspension setup have been tuned to offer “high driving pleasure for enthusiasts”. The small SUV will be offered in a dual trim concept including the sporty GT-Line (pictured in the gallery) and the standard model. The latest made-in-India global product after the larger Seltos, the Sonet will be made at Kia’s plant in Anantapur, Andhra Pradesh, India.
