The 2022 Jeep Wrangler 4xe plug-in hybrid is being recalled due to an issue with the odometer.

The automaker has revealed that some Wrangler 4xe models are equipped with digital instrument cluster software that may prevent the odometer from displaying after it hits 13,342 miles or 21,437 km.

The issue took place between September 8, 2020 and September 13, 2021, when vehicles on the production line received a suspect software service update. Jeep fixed the issue with a new gauge cluster software version that was implemented into vehicle production but a total of 2,903 Wranglers are now involved in the recall and all of them are thought to have the issue.

A recall notice from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) states that if the odometer value is not displayed, owners may miss critical vehicle maintenance periods, increasing the likelihood of components failing due to a lack of maintenance, heightening the risk of a crash.

To fix the issue, the automaker will update the software on vehicles with less than 13,342 miles (21,473 km) on the clock while those vehicles that have already passed this figure will be fitted with new gauge clusters. It has also been confirmed that any owner that has had the gauge cluster replaced due to the issue will be reimbursed.

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles U.S. will begin notifying owners on or around January 28, 2022.

A multitude of 2021 and 2022 Audi models are being recalled in the United States due to an issue with the rear-view camera.

Audi says that it discovered an issue during regular quality assurance processes, noting there could be a delay in the rear-view camera response time under certain conditions. The German automaker says that as the rear-view camera picture may not be available when the vehicle is switched into reverse, the issue increases the risk of a crash.

It says that inappropriate software parameter settings are to blame as there are multiple running processes during the start-up of the infotainment system that might hinder each other and cause a delay in the activation of the rear-view camera picture.

A total of 2,857 vehicles are covered in the recall.

Impacted models consist of the 2021 Audi S8, 2022 Audi S5 Sportback, 2022 Audi A4 Sedan, 2021 Audi A8, 2022 Audi e-tron GT, 2022 Audi Q3, 2022 Audi Q5, 2022 Audi RS6 Avant, 2022 Audi A3, 2022 Audi A5 Sportback, 2022 Audi Q5 Sportback, 2022 Audi Q8, 2022 Audi Q8, 2022 Audi RSQ8, 2022 Audi SQ7, 2022 Audi SQ8, and the 2022 Audi A3 Sedan. Production dates of affected vehicles vary between June 5, 2021 and October 16, although we would encourage concerned owners to see all impacted production dates here.

Audi will resolve the issue with a simple update to the infotainment system at no cost to customers. Dealers and customers will be notified on or before December 17, 2021.

The 2021 Nissan Rogue has been recalled for the fourth time this year due to an issue with the rear seats.

The recall notice reveals that in some models the rear seats were not properly manufactured by a Nissan supplier. The automaker says the upper tether wires in the rear seats may not have been properly welded to the seatback frame which is important as these wires are part of the LATCH system for securing child safety seats.

An investigation from Nissan revealed that these wires may have moved out of position during the welding process which means they could be insufficiently welded to the seatback. This could result in the wires not meeting the strength requirements for child restraint systems. Nissan found three left-side seats and one right-side seat with insufficient welds during an audit. The company is not aware of any incidents related to this issue.

A grand total of 47,098 Rogue SUVs from the 2021 model year are involved in the recall. If dealers discover a nonconforming weld, they will replace the affected seatback free of charge. Owners will be notified by mail from July 30.

The Nissan Rogue was most recently recalled in May due to rear brake caliper assemblies that could be missing an internal bushing that secures the O-seal ring. This recall involved 14,045 examples from the 2021 model year. Earlier this year, Nissan also recalled the 2021 Rogue because a handful of models were fitted with wheel nuts designed for the Nissan Maxima. Moreover, 2,146 Rogues were recalled in February due to an improperly secured fuel hose that could leak.

According to South Korea’s transport ministry, Hyundai has decided to recall its Kona electric model locally over a possible short circuit due to what could be faulty battery cell manufacturing. The resulting spark could cause a fire.

The recall will commence on October 16 and will include software updates and battery replacements following an inspection. Involved are 25,564 Kona EVs built between September 2017 and March 2020, reports Reuters.

This recall “is a proactive response to a suspected defective production of high-voltage batteries used in the vehicles, which may have contributed to the reported fires,” said the carmaker, adding that it will use all necessary measures to identify the cause of the issue and address customers’ needs.

Of course, this is a very serious problem, especially after there have already been some 13 incidents of fire involving this model, including documented ones in Canada and Austria. The one in Canada took place in a garage in Montreal where the Kona simply exploded despite not being plugged into anything at the time.

LG Chem, who makes the batteries for the Kona Electric, said that the exact cause of that fire hasn’t been determined and a reenactment experiment conducted together with Hyundai did not lead to a similar incident, which means the fires may not be related to faulty battery cells.

After the recall was announced, Hyundai shares fell 1.4%, mostly because battery replacements could be costly – the battery accounts for roughly 30% of an EV’s overall price. Meanwhile, LG Chem shares actually went up 1.8%.
